After breakfast tour the city of Zagreb. In the fortified, medieval Upper Town, you will see St. Mark’s church, with its multi-colour tiled roof, the lavishly baroque St. Catherine’s church, Parliament, the government palace, and many fine old buildings. In the lower city, presided over by a statue of a mounted Ban Jelacic in the main square, you will see the ornate, 19th century National Theater, museums, the university - one of the region’s oldest - well tended parks, and elaborate Secession (Art Noveau) architecture. After lunch, proceed to Dalmatia and the quaint town of Vodice.
Dinner and overnight in Vodice.
DAY 3 VODICE - SIBENIK – NP KRKA - DUBROVNIK
After breakfast at the hotel, short drive to the city of Sibenik. The historic town of Sibenik is rich in cultural and historical monuments. The most representative among them is the famous Cathedral of Sibenik (St. Jacobs), one of the most original architectural projects of the late Middle Ages, primarily linked to the local master Juraj Matejev Dalmatinac (George of Dalmatia). From Sibenik we continue to the Krka Waterfalls. Krka is a river in Dalmatia; springs out at the western foot of Dinara Mountain and flows into the sea near Sibenik. In limestone it forms a narrow and deep canyon (up to 200 m), flowing over travertine barriers and creating waterfalls. The most beautiful of all are Roski Slap and Skradinski Buk.
After the visit, continue on to Dubrovnik, which is on UNESCO’s list of world cultural heritage.
Dinner and overnight in Dubrovnik.
DAY 4 DUBROVNIK
After breakfast, sightseeing of Dubrovnik. Completed in the thirteen century, the old city Dubrovnik has remained basically unchanged since. Its medieval ramparts encircle the city which pedestrians can enter through one of two gates - either way, they cross a stone bridge under the watchful gaze of the city’s patron Saint, Blaise (Vlaho), to find themselves joining the evening promenade down the broad, stone-paved avenue known as Stradun. After the sightseeing we will take a panoramic boat trip to see the bombastic Dubrovnik city walls from the sea, this being the highlight of your journey.
Dinner and overnight in Dubrovnik.
DAY 5 DUBROVNIK – MOSTAR - MAKARSKA RIVIERA
After an early breakfast we leave Dubrovnik in the direction of the Makarska Riviera. "Brela is a source of beauty" - indeed, thanks to dense pine forests, excellent beaches, clear seawater, sources of potable water. Brela has been known for decades as one of the most attractive seaside resorts in Dalmatia. Beautiful, luxuriant pine forests are located close to the superb pebble beaches. Today you can enjoy this beautiful nature, take a stroll along the coastal promenade or just take a swim on one of the many beaches.
Dinner and overnight in Brela.
DAY 6 MAKARSKA RIVIERA – SPLIT – PLITVICE LAKES
After breakfast, proceed to Split, which is also on UNESCO’s list of world cultural heritage. Today’s Split is the handiwork of seventeen centuries of men and women building and remodelling, adding and tearing down and touching up, so that 18th century houses intersect with ancient Roman walls and fourth century chambers house twentieth century apartments. At the core of this sprawling cityscape is the palace that Emperor Diocletian built for his golden years at the turn of the fourth century. In the afternoon continue to Plitvice Lakes, the largest national park in Croatia.
Dinner and overnight in Plitvice Lakes.
DAY 7 PLITVICE LAKES - OPATIJA
The most beautiful and the oldest national park in Croatia under UNESCO protection – consists of 16 lakes connected by waterfalls. The park is visited mostly on foot – however the entrance includes a boat ride across the Emerald Green Lake “Kozjak” and a train ride back to the main entrance. The visit of the park grounds takes approx. 3 hours. Continue to Opatija, situated on the picturesque Kvarner Bay, which used to be the favourite spa resort of the Habsburgs and the European aristocracy including famous personalities such as Mahler, Chekhov and Isadora Duncan.
