The Panorama Route is world famous and best known for its scenic beauty and cultural heritage. The most breathtaking part of the Panorama Route is the Blyde River Canyon, the 3rd biggest canyon in the world, with a 33 km long gorge stretching all the way from Bourke’s Luck Potholes to the Three Rondawels. The Potholes are very impressive rock formations that were shaped millions of years ago by erosion. The bizarre swirl holes developed when the once rapid river carried masses of sand and debris. Other must sees on the route include God’s Window – a panoramic view of the Lowveld more than 900 m down into lush indigenous forest clad ravine; and The Pinnacle Rock – a tower-like freestanding quartzite buttress which rises 30 m above the dense indigenous forest; and Pelgrims Rest – a living museum, preserved in the exact architectural style of the gold rush period, boasting various buildings that has remained unchanged externally for more than a century. Lying in the heart of the Lowveld is a wildlife sanctuary like no other, its atmosphere so unique that it allows those who enter its vastness to immerse themselves in the unpredictability and endless wilderness that is the true quality of Africa.
